While other team members were at Wildflower, 5 Peaks, or Lakeside, ARC’s Mud Run attracted a different type of athlete: one that loves to get dirty! Billed as Canada’s Dirtiest 10k, the event did not disapoint. With my teammates Bob McGrath and Kevin Wall, we tackled the 10k (but really 11.5k) course.
The course is essentially a nice technical trail technical run with some good hills, tight single track and the pre-requisite river crossings. Added to the mix were a couple of obstacles: a tyre hop, ramps and a wall to hop over, and of course, the infamous mud pit – a 30 fit pit of mud, hosed down just for us!
Best advice for the mud pit is just to dive head first and stay low so that you don’t lose your shoes to the mud!
With just under 900 teams and solos, this event was just clean fun – well not really that clean but a must for those looking for a break from those long runs on the pavement and something with a twist.
The event also showcased 150 kids in the 1.5k race. While some course marshalling issues left some kids running 5k rather than 1.5k, there were plenty of smiles around when the kids jumped into the mud pit. Who doesn’t like mud?
