Another great 5Peaks Trail Race in Durham Forest. I don’t know what I did that morning but I had a very tough race that day. I was pushing hard and the course was challenging with lots of steep uphills and downhills. There was lots of single track but it always seemed to open up at the right times so that you could easily pass other runners. The terrain is soft and the scenery is lush with trees. There were some quiet moments when it seemed like I was all alone because of the zig-zags and turns along the trail – made me nervous for about 20 seconds before I spotted more orange and yellow markers. I wanted to place in the top 3 in my Age Group so I was definitely pushing hard and kept passing runners up until the last 1/2km and in the end I managed a 4th place finish so I was happy with that. The caliber of runners were excellent as there was a Championship race going on so it was an extra bonus to get to watch some very fast runners run – it’s incredible how fast they do run.
Final stats 1:06:09.8 (5:26 min/km), 4/23 Age Group
