Chilly Half Marathon in Burlington Mar. 2/08

Well it was a perfect day for a winter Half marathon. This was my first time running Chilly. I was registered last year but got sick and never made it to the race. I’m glad I made it this year. Course was nice, fairly flat, and very well supported with 6 water stations.  I  thought it was very well organized with good chilly at the end, lots of warm places to wait in, and great post-race massages.

It was a mentally tough race for me. I didn’t wake up feeling great and it felt hard right from start. I had a goal of 1:45 and I really wanted it so I went out for it. For the first 12K I managed to keep 30sec in the bank but somewhere between 13-16K I felt it slipping away. At 16.5K the 1:45 Pace bunny blew by me and I just couldn’t keep up with them but I was determined to keep going at a good pace. At 18K it mentally got easier since I knew the end was close. At 20K I just gave it my all until the end. I couldn’t talk for 10 mins after the race but I was happy to still be within my goal. This is my 3rd half marathon and a personal best as well.

Gun time: 1:45:55
Pace/km 5:01
Chip time: 1:45:46

  • Nice race Esther. Just remember with all the hard training we do, it’s the tough races that are actually the flukes. Next one will be the big PB. Good luck!
