Durham Forest,5 Peaks Enduro Race 12.3k

www.5peaks.com

The latest installment of the 5peaks series was sponsored by none other than the mothership itself, and what a race course Jill and Kalon mapped out for us!

A quick sprint down a “country lane”,quickly into challenging single track chock full of switchbacks, fallen logs and the odd bit of mud.Throw in 3 good sized hills, the feature being the “Wall of Pain” numerous other rollers, then “The Sandbox”, a couple of hundred metres of  speed slowing fun and last but not least a sprint back down the country lane to the finish and the welcome sounds of the RF band.

What a course!Fortuneately I have been able to remain injury free this season and therefore came into Durham in close to peak shape.I was more than happy with my 9th place overall finish and 2nd place in my age group. This helped make up for a disappointing 1st series race at Horseshoe Valley.

What a sight it was to see so many Team RF shirts around the start/finish line, at the check-in desks and at the aid-stations.Representin’ !!

Go Team Running Free !

Cheers

  • I am so glad you enjoyed the course Anthony! I was very jealous of everyone who got to race it. I run it all the time, but racing it is a whole other ball game. You looked incredible crossing the line; much better than most. The number of Team RF shirts added to the excitement and inspiration in the air. A huge thank-you to all RF athletes for competing, performing or volunteering at Durham. We couldn’t have done it without you.

  • I totally agree, all the RF shirts that were there really brought out the team spirit and I am sure made a huge impression on many of the participants. These races (especially the ones that don’t have buildings included with the venues) depend a lot on the amount and quality of the volunteers and how much preparation has gone into putting the race together. Way to go John, Pat, Kalon and all the other people involved in planning and staging the 5 Peaks Southern Ontario series.

It was such a great race and I am told that it was all Jill’s idea to include the sandbox to the course. Well done.

Next stop: Rattlesnake Point in 3 weeks.
