Albion Hills Conservation Area,Palgrave On.
Enduro distance14.8km
What a surprise, overcast with rain in the forecast for a Saturday race!Same old story it seems this race season. But Lady Luck was with us this day and though overcast and tres muggy,it stayed dry.
I’m beginning to think that those responsible for setting the courses at 5Peaks this year (Hi Jill,Kalon) are a wee bit sadistic! They manage to find every hill in the vicinity and work it into the race. Therefore, here we are about 6k into the last race of the series and I am sucking serious wind at the top of what seems like the 10th hill already.Great, onlyabout 9k left!Luckily for me the course was more rolling after this point and I actually managed to catch my breath and keep steady to the end to find myself finishing a surprising 6th overall.
With those valuable placing points I ended up 8th overall for the series and 3rd in my age group.A satisfying season tho say the least.
The last race day of the series had the usual 6k Sport race and for the 3rd year featured the half-marathon distance also.A good number of the faster lads chose the longer distance enabling me to place as high-up as I did in the middle distance.Nice one!
Once again,Jon Klich and his amazing array of assistants and volunteers did a wicked job of organizing the best race series in Ontario,in my humble opinion.
Kudo’s to our very own Jill & Kalon for setting some of the most technical and hilly courses Ive ran in my 4 years at 5Peaks.
A final thank-you to whosever idea it was to have the artists drawing caricatures for the Overall Age Group winners.Mine is excellent and a unique souvenir that I’ll laugh about in years to come.
Cheers
Well said Anthony!! i also entered the enduro race and my comments are quite similar…great challenging race with lots of ups & downs. Trail run at its best!!! Definitely less boring than a road run. This confirmed me in the idea of racing xterra triathlon next year…Can’t wait!!!
