Sunset Shuffle 6k,Wards Island,Toronto
On the eve of the famous Longboat race this weekend,I totally forgot about the best kept secret on the Toronto race calendar. For the last 22 yrs there has been a 6k race on the 3rd or 4th Thursday evening in August out on Wards Island, attracting 200 or so runners.
No big fanfare,no t-shirts,no race kits, hell they don’t even give you a bib# !!What you get is a sticker pinned to your shirt with your name and age-group.Just like the old days of racing they have spotters to keep people in their finishing order as someone peels off your sticker and applies to a finishing order board.Kinda cool actually.
I had a great race this year in a slowish field and came home in 2nd place just 7 seconds behind the winner. Those speed work-outs are working!
Afterward ther is a great little BBQ with a complementary beer, some draw prizes, medals for the age-groups then it’s time to catch the ferry back to the mainland.
What a great experience!Just don’t tell too many people!
Cheers
