Let me just start off by saying that this shoe is a great shoe for the mid and mid-forefoot striker who has late-stage, toe-off pronation (foot rolls inward). Thankfully the shoe companies are starting to understand that just because you run more midfoot, it doesn’t always mean you need a neutral (no stability) shoe. There are a number of runners who pronate, run fairly fast but still require some stability and cushioning in the forefoot. For years you could only buy stability and motion-control (for the extreme pronator) shoes that focused on heel pronation. The problem with this is, runners like myself were relegated to either wear heavy shoes that offered support but in the wrong area and didn’t have enough forefoot cushioning or wear shoes with great forefoot cushioning but no support at all. The latter is a receipe for disaster especially in the late stages of marathon or ultra races.
The past couple of years has seen an increase in these types of shoes but I have to say, for my longer days or recovery days where I want a bit more support, the Infiniti really fits the bill! It’s still fairly light but gives excellent cushioning and support. Brooks has even created a new category for these types of shoes and refers it as the ‘Guidance category’ for “for runners who want superb cushioning, and just a touch of stability.” Well, they definitely get my vote!
