Sunday April 5th was the day of the 18th running of the Uxbridge Icebreaker in the Durham Forest. With 2 race options, option A being 25km and Option B being 50km of fun. I chose the hardman option of 50km. After the requisite pre race fueling of Tim’s Hot Chocolate and Bacon Breakie sandwich on the drive up. And a quick warm up it was time to go. Since this wasn’t going to be a big event I viewed it as more of a fun 50km ride with some suffering for the fun of it. And since results weren’t a priority I had decided to make it a strength endurance ride by using the do it all Chromag instead of the lighter 29er. Nothing too exciting other then did the mud pit depth test. It was hub deep. And let’s not forget the slip on ice and bounce of chain link fence and tree sub events as well. Not a true race pace but still a good long ride in the woods with other like minded people. And the funny part of the whole thing was despite not chasing a result and going all out I still won my category and got some podium time. Maybe the next time I should have some a Tim’s Bacon Breakie delivered at a certain point to refuel. Make it more interesting.
