Six days after the wet and wild ATB race,came Harrys Spring Run Off in beautiful High Park.In it’s 32nd year,this well attended race raises thousands of dollars for Prostate Cancer research.As a male in his 40’s,this was a no brainer for attending.The only problem was that I hadn’t checked the calendar when I registered for the race and the stiffness from Around the Bay was still in my quads!
Nevertheless,here we were on a cold spring morning ready to do battle with the hills of High Pk.The race features a couple of the tougher hills in the park,with the last one placed cruelly at the very end of the race.
I had a nice race going,even paced,but had to dig real deep on that last climb to maintain my place.A good running buddy was on my tail,and I wanted bragging rights !Finally the finish line,and relief to the aching quads,bragging rights intact and an age group podium finish to boot.
I think I’ll pay closer attention to my race schedule in future though.
