I started running a few short years ago. Someone suggested I try CWX tights, and I did. I was too unfamiliar with the sport at the time to appreciate what I had. Over the last 4 years though, or running all year around from -40 to +40, I’ve come to recognize what they do for me.
I’ve read several reviews and articles on CWX. I understand about the webbing effect and massaging my leg muscles. I’ve read about how they hold the muscles tight so that energy isn’t wasted as muscles rock from side to side and back again. For those of you who like lots of data and scientific facts, there are lots to be found about CWX tights and shorts. There are very interesting articles on degrees of fatigue comparing regular shorts, standard tights and CWX tights and shorts. I’ve read articles comparing VO2 oxygen intake levels while wearing different clothing. Who would have thought that one!
All of that aside, (as interesting it is) I LOVE my CWX for one reason. I can run further, faster and I feel better. It’s that simple.
I have problems with one calf tightening up on me all the time. It doesn’t bother me when I run in my CWX. My legs aren’t as sore after a long race if I wore my CWX either.
I found that when the outside temperature hit about the 10 degree mark though, I had to switch over to CWX shorts. I love those shorts, but I don’t get that extra calf support that I need. Last year I got a pair of the Ventilator tights. A number of the panels are made out of a mesh material that makes them much cooler to run in. I usually run early in the morning, and we haven’t had any hot early morning hot weather yet this year so I’m not sure to what outside temperature I’ll be able to wear these, but I have been out in 16 – 17 degrees and they have felt great.
