Sunset Shuffle 6k,Thurs.Aug.27th 2009
Wards Island,Toronto Islands
You would think that after 23 years this little secret would be out! But no,each year approximately 175-200 runners ferry over to the Islands in late August for a 6k race,a post run hotdog and a cold beer! All this for a measly $25.
Nothing fancy about this race.No timing chips,no race t-shirt,no product samples,no race advertising.Just a sticker with your name and age group on it.A manual timing system,a bbq, cold beer, draw prizes, overall and age-group plaques and medals and a ferry ride back to the big smoke! Is there a better way to spend a summer evening?
The race starts promptly at 7pm,follows the bike path toward Centre Island, turns just before Hanlans Point and simply returns back to Wards Island on the same path.A stellar field assembled this year with a couple of runners going under 20mins.I was 13 seconds faster than last year, yet found myself 8 places down in the finishing order!Just squeaked into the top 10,and a 3rd place in my age group, and all on my birthday!Sweet. But that’s not the best thing,a buddy had to leave early so he gave me his beer ticket! 2 ice-cold Steamwhistles for the birthday boy!
Cheers.

Wow I’ve never heard of this race before but I’d love to try it out next year.
Thanks for sharing Anthony.
Great race time btw!
