This is the final event of the Cruise to Run cruise and it was a full week for sure. To recap, we spent one day at sea sailing from San Juan to Bardados where we ran the Barbados 5km race. Then sailed to St. Lucia where we ran an 8km run to the Vigie lighthouse where an incredible vista awaited us at the halfway point. Then it was Antigua where we did a 13km morning run to Fort Barrington with an option to run an afternoon run with the Antigua Hash harriers, and in case you’re wondering, I was crazy enough to say yes. It was fun though. From there we sailed to Tortola where we did a crazy but fun mountain run which was 1km up, or should I say “straight up”. It was more survival walking than running.
Which leads us to St. Thomas and our 5km prediction run. On the first day of the cruise you have to submit what you predict will be your time for this 5km race and the closest to the time wins. They also award the top 3 overall. The catch, of course, is that no watches are allowed.
For this race I predicted a 20 minute time and ran 19:50.8 which is a pretty good prediction, or so you’d think. Let’s just say that this was only good enough for 15th. The winner predicted a 22 minute time and ran 21:59.7. Only missed by 0.3 seconds; truly amazing!
This was a lot of fun as I’ve never run a prediction race before.
