Before race
It was rainy and cold before the race. I had a race and hockey the day before, and hockey again after the race. So I wasn’t planning on anything spectacular. My goal time was around 16 minutes, and I knew it wouldn’t be too hard. I went to the start line ready for a fast race.
Race
I started well, I was in the top 20. I left a little more gap than I would have liked form the top runners. The first 3km were going great, I was sticking up in the front, and was in a comfortable pace. The rest was still good, but not as comfortable. My calves were a little sore from the trail race and hockey. Still I maintained the pace. The wet roads, the rain, and the cold weren’t very bothersome. I hardly even noticed the poor conditions. Turining the corner for the last 200m I pushed it to the finish.
After
I finished in 18:26. I was around 10th overall, and 3rd for my age. I was proud of my finish. It was a strong race and I reached my goal time. I was pleased to get out of the rain and back to my warm home. I still had a couple of hours before I had to go to hockey.
Colin, excellent race, especially based on the conditions. I raced it as well and now I truly know what it feels like to be a wet puppy! LOL!
One small note; your time was actually 18:26, not 16:26. Again great time given the monsoon conditions!
Mike
Thanks for correcting me, i wasn’t sure because some of the times were screwed up at the race. And you had an excellent finish yourself.
