Over the years it always amazes me how something simple in a race like a jersey zipper can become either frustrating or to much work to deal with. Especially when one is doing 4 plus hour events.Yet it is something that we tend to ignore.
Having used for the last year and a half full zip jersey’s it makes life in general so much easier. Firstly being that one does not have to remove their helmets while doing so. Which if one looks at it is one less thing to do. Plus depending upon the weather conditions makes it easier to remove jersey layers. Removing jersey layers tends to have a downside with that being the other layers can get pulled up and it also increases the chances of losing your supplies in the rear pockets.
Now in an ideal world we would all be able to shovel out $120 per jersey for the new out of the package version. But the reality is that we all have stacks of jersey’s sitting in our closets. All prime for a simple $20 mod. And if you are like me you will find out that some jersey’s will now start seeing more use with this mod. It’s not a big hassle to layer any more as it’s easier to get on and off like a jacket instead of a shirt.
This modification can easily be done by any reputable sewing shop. In Toronto I recommend the Toronto Sport Sewing Shop on Gerrard St East at Woodbine.
