GU Chomps!
In the past five years a lot has changed in fuelling options for racing. Options used to be pretty limited to various bars a few gels and some basic hydration choices. One of the coolest things I noticed is the new candy like fuel like Sport Beans, Clif Bloks and now Gu Chomps…and I am sure there are a few others out there. I love a good jube-jube so I had to have these! After giving all my options a try I chose to go with the Gu Chomps.
First of all I was a fan of their flavours – basic and nothing out of the ordinary. I’m not a big fan of strange mixes and don’t need to be eating pina colada flavoured treats while I race. The taste is also not over powering, which I always think if a good thing. You also get 2 options with caffeine and 2 without. I always opted for the strawberry, with caffeine of course.
The other thing I liked about these was how easy they were to eat. When comparing to some of their competition I really liked the texture and size of the chomps. Others seemed too chewy and were actually a challenge to get down at times. That’s not something I want to struggle with and the reason I stay away from most solid foods when racing. It’s pretty easy to pop a few chomps in your mouth and keep going.

I was also a big fan of GU Roctane this summer as well. It was the only gel I ate racing (but it’s a bit pricey for training sessions!). Lastly, the new Gu BREW is out and from the few samples I have had I am a fan. The Recovery Brew is great and easy to get down after a good day of training.
