Ediscs Review

I have always been a profuse sweater.  In everything I do in life, I sweat more than most people I encounter.   If you think of the sweatiest person you know, I could compete with them for the amount of water lost to the atmosphere and clothing materials.  I am not trying to gross anyone out, I am just setting the tone for how much I appreciate the EDiscs.  To provide an example of my sweating prowess, my shorts and shirt are routinely soaked through as if I had come out of a lake 15 minutes before after just one Ultimate Frisbee game that last 1.5 hours.  Even though I do not wear cotton and wear clothing that supposedly has the ability to wick away moisture, my clothing is soaked through.  I can usually wring out my shirt 3-5 times and get a great deal of moisture to squeeze out.   Again I am not bragging or trying being gross, I am just providing examples of my body’s ability to perspire.

With perspiration comes dehydration.  Not only is the loss of water a concern, but as is the loss of electrolytes.  I have cramped up my fair share of times within Adventure Races, or Ultimate Frisbee games due to the loss of electrolytes.  I know I sweat and I attempt to stay on top of hydration all the time.  I use Eload in water to help me, and when I started it sure did.  Sometime 3 L in a pack filled with Eload wasn’t the most appetizing and sometimes seemed incapable of keeping me hydrated.

When I saw the EDiscs I hoped that they would help me out as I didn’t have to consume 3L of water to go with the electrolytes that I lost.  I needed more electrolytes and less water as I was incapable of drinking that much water in a short period of time.  I tried putting more Eload in the water to raise the electrolytes, but often the taste became too bad as the powder was not meant to be in such high concentrations.

Ediscs ended up being the right combination for me.  I found that they are very light and can be popped at any time for their carbohydrates or their electrolytes.  I have made them a staple in my racing diets.  I go out of my way to pop 2 or 3 every couple of hours to augment my normal hydration drinks.  I find this to be easier on my gut and keeps me feeling refreshed and energetic.  I use to suffer needlessly before I started consuming these in trail races, adventure races, and ultimate Frisbee games.  I still sweat the same, but I suffer far less.

I would recommend this product to anyone who has trouble keeping properly hydrated.  The capsule container is very durable and convenient.  I can fit in the food pouches of adventure racing packs, or it can fit easily in cycling jerseys.  I find the disc to be very pleasant in terms of the taste and really easy to swallow, even when my mouth is dry.  I have made more friends at races than ever through offering some Ediscs to dehydration sufferers around me.
