Sable WaterOptics The Difference is Clear…
Sable wasn’t kidding when they say the difference is clear. Ironman USA Lake Placid 2009 was the first time my goggles did not fog up during the swim portion of the race. In 7 previous swims with 7 differnt goggles at Lake Placid all swims finished with my vision being obscured.
The swim course takes place in Mirror Lake and is marked by bouys on the surface and is also marked 6 ft under the surface with a rope. So you can imagine how benefical having haze free goggles can be. Swimming next to the line would be ideal if you don’t mind getting kicked or punched for a 2.4 mile swim. This is because 2000 people also want to be close to the line. With the Sables I was able to swim 6-7 ft beside the line and still have it clearly visable. The traffic here is very minimal but you do get the odd swimmer who swims in zig zags crossing your path. If they only wore Sable’s.
Sables are also one of the most comfortable fitting goggles I have tried on over the years. The soft silicone gaskets around the eyes provide for a great watertight seal and do not create alot of pressure against the eyes. Over time the googles may fog up, this will be due to a build up mineral deposits on the lenses, swimming in lakes, ponds, rivers and oceans will do this. But I found if you use a little dish soap on the inside of the lens, then gently rubbing with your baby finger then rinsing with clean water and allowing to air dry will help renew the anti-fog on the lenses.
The competitve goggles come with 3 different sized nose-bridge pieces and is available in 4 mirrored(Blue, Emerald, Fuscia and Gold) or 2 tinted(Blue and Smoke) colours. Sables can also be fitted with prescription lenses for mild astigmatism and near sighted vision.
