This event is always on my list for some reasons I cannot describe. Perhaps I love it is so well-organized, I love the distance (not too short but not too long), I love the the distillery district, I love the view of the Toronto skyline and I love the music the band plays after the event, etc…..
This year I had high hope to break my last year record since it has been a good year to me. I have been training harder and smarter (hopefully). I spend a little bit more time on my bike (either in gym or on road) for cross-training and also increase my distance on my run. I make sure I rest & eat properly and not over-train myself. So I thought I should be able to do better than last year…
The reality was I was doing worst. The first half was OK but the second I lost a few minutes which I know I lost my strength after about 6 miles. It is so easy for one to blame on the heat and the humidity on that day. But when you look at the times that the others can do then you wonder why they were not affected.
I was a bit disappointed for a few days but not any more because I think this could be my body didn’t want to run that hard, or my brain instructed my legs to slow down, or even my brain just wanted me to have fun and reserved energy for the next race. My point is you don’t have the total control of your body, your brain does.
I was ended up finished the race at 1:11:41 which is about 3 minutes slower than last year. Don’t care about any more and I have higher hope on the next one.
By the way, congratulations to our young talent Leslie Sexton won the overall women championship! AG champions Daniel Mackinnon, Scott McDonell, and Anthony Davey. Well done!
It was great to see John Pereira again with the dark tanning that I want.
Stay safe and have fun!
