Salomon XT Wings 2 S-Lab
Fellow RF’er Harper Forbes has recently posted a review of these shoes, but I just wanted to take the opportunity to echo many of his sentiments about this awesome new shoe in the Salomon 2010 line-up.
Like many adventure racers, I’ve been loyal to the Salomon brand as my first choice in adventure racing footwear. I’ve tried some of the competitors’ models, but none held up to the tried-and-true Salomon XA Pro. As new models appeared in the market each year, I always clapped my hands with glee, and now adventure race exclusively in Salomon shoes.
I haven’t had as much luck finding a trail running shoe that I was happy with, and I was hoping that the Salomon XT Wings 2 S-Lab might fit this bill. I loved the bright colour of the model as well as the fact that was unisex sizing. As a female with enormous feet, I often have difficulty finding women’s models in my size.
I have to admit that when I first picked up these shoes from the Markham store, I didn’t want to get them dirty and took them only out when the trails were dry! Over time, however, I have accepted that they wouldn’t stay bright and spiffy forever and they have now accompanied me on many trail running adventures. I’m a huge fan of the Salomon Quicklace system which keeps shoes tight regardless of how many creeks, rivers, or mud puddles you run through. Weighing in at a scant 632 g, these shoes are noticeably lighter than any of my other trail runners. Despite their weight, they feel remarkably comfortable and cushioned. I was initially concerned about how they would hold up comfort-wise over longer distances, but I am pleased to report that they’ve exceeded my expectations in this regard.
I think I’ve finally found my perfect trail running shoe! Although I haven’t used these shoes for any adventure races, they’ve rapidly become my go-to shoe for all of my other off-road adventures. If you are looking for a comfortable yet lightweight shoe for any type of trail running, I would highly recommend the Salomon XT Wings 2 S-Lab.
I can only echo whats been said about these shoes, if your a fan of the standard XT wings then you must track down a pair of Slabs.. Sadly my beloved Slab2`s have come to the end of there running career but two months ago I was lucky enough to revieve a pair of Slab3`s so all is not lost… :0)
