Location: Binbrook Conservation Area, Binbrook, Ontario
Date: Sunday, June 13/10
Distance: 750m/27k/6.5k
This is the first year that the race temperature was not sweltering! In fact it had poured the day before & there were huge puddles everywhere. It was nice & cool in the morning, which was a great race temperature for me.
Swim 750m
Again, I had not done any swimming prior to racing, due to a sore rotator cuff. I just wanted to get in & out of the water without my arm hurting. The water temperature was nice, & again no weeds. The swim was relatively uneventful. I passed alot of swimmers along the way.

Bike 27k
As soon as we exited the Conservation Area, we immediately ran into the Ride to Conquer Cancer riders. They were riding 4 abreast, so there was no room to manouver. After the first straightaway, there was a slight jog to the left, then we continued to ride straight through. However, as we approached this corner, there were volunteers yelling, riders hard left, athletes straight through! I’m thinking, I am on a bike, am I a rider or an athlete? This corner was quite confusing! I let the bikers turn left around the corner & I continued straight through, & started to reel in some triathletes. As I was passing people, they asked if they were on the right route for the triathlon. So, I knew that I was not the only one who was confused, but I knew that we were on the right route. I got to the turnaround & checked my distance & it said 14k, which meant the bike course turned out to be 28k, & not the 27k that was advertised.
Bike time: 57:41 28.1kph 140/234 overall

Run 6.5k
This run is mixed terrain with the majority of it being trail. Combined with the rains from the night before, there were huge puddles & lots of mud. Being in the last wave the run course was really chewed up, by the time I got to run on it. It was slippery & I almost lost my shoes in a few of the puddles. My only goal was to take it easy, & not reinjure my hamstring. This was tricky with all of the slipping & sliding. I was glad to get through the run unscathed.
Run time: 38:01 5:51/k 168/234 overall
Finish time: 1:54:51 3/8 age group 130/234 overall
Overall this is a great race. The Multisport crew explained that they didn’t know about the Ride To Conquer Cancer being on the same course until the night before when they had checked the condition of the roads & saw the signs for it. Apparently the Ride to Conquer Cancer had changed their route at the last minute, & there wouldn’t be this conflict again next year. This was really the only glitch of the race.
Congratulations to all of the Running Free athletes & their great performances!
