Salomon Advanced Skin Pack
The day before I was going away for a 4 day trail running trip in the Canadian Rockies I was lucky to receive the Salomon Advanced Skin trail running pack.
The first thing I noticed about the pack is the look. It looks almost “vest-like”. The second thing I noticed was the weight, coming in at about 300 grams. Without a waist belt the pack fits like a vest and does not bounce when running. Instead of a sternum strap the pack uses a Twin Link system which allows a more customized fit for the runner. The hydration hose is routed underneath your arm as oppose to other packs where the routing comes from the shoulder. This allows easier and quicker accessibility to the hose. It also has an isothermic water pouch which keeps the liquids in your hydration bladder cool for hours. The pockets are really what makes the pack great. I was able to carry food for 6 hours and a small camera all easily accessible without having to stop and take the pack off. There is a larger rear pocket for a jacket and an emergency blanket. It also has a special attachment for trekking poles.
After 4 days of mountain running with the Advanced Skin Pack I was quite impressed how the pack performed. I look forward to wearing it for every long run. Since the Rockies I have used it for mountain biking, cross county skiing, snowshoeing and even course setting.
