Salomon Super Fast II Jacket

As Team Running Free members know, and non-members ought to know, one of the greatest perks that comes along with being a member of the Team is being able to take part in the annual team lottery. This is the vehicle by which members get one of their most substantial giveaways for the year.

This year, I was fortunate enough to draw a $100 credit from Salomon. I was unfortunate enough, however, to receive the great news only two days after purchasing two pairs of Salomon shoes. Boo hoo; I have a tough life, right?

Knowing that shoes weren’t on the shopping list, I decided that I would wait for cooler temperatures and treat myself to a sweet jacket. That’s where the Salomon Super Fast II jacket comes in.

I picked up this jacket towards the end of November. I have had the opportunity to wear it on a few long runs since then, in temperatures ranging from -2 to about 10degC. The jacket seems to offer a fantastic combination of keeping me warm, while still allowing me to breathe. Most importantly, I don’t realize I’m wearing a jacket while I’m out running with it on. I consider this a testament to the great fit. Of course this will vary from person to person, however.

On one especially chilly run, I thought I’d give the thumb holes a whirl (insert technical term here). This is my first experience with the trend, and I am impressed. I kept my hands warm and the sleeves securely in place with the holes.

Aside from the technical aspects of the jacket, I think my favourite is the look and styling. The lime green trim suits my personality, and I have even worn it to the bar a few times. The best proof for my affection towards the aesthetics of the jacket is the fact that I wore it to my office with a shirt and tie one day. Who’s stylin’!?

In conclusion, I am very happy with the purchase; it was well-worth the wait. The jacket has performed very well, and either met or exceeded my expectations. While it may not be suitable for wearing out and about in the temperature range I have used it for, it is certainly more ample than a simple windbreaker. There is a light fleece lining which I suspect would keep you comfortable in non-athletic circumstances down to around 5degC or so.

I am in an engineering position, and currently pursuing my masters in Mechanical Engineering on a part-time basis. This takes up a lot of my time :-( Being a good Canadian as I am, I grew up on the ice, and continue to play hockey competitively to this day. Hand-in-hand with hockey goes golf, and I always enjoy a good game. While at university, I had the good fortune of being shown the benefits of working out at the gym. During an internship at Enbridge, I had the even better fortune (can't believe I'm saying this) of being introduced to fellow Running Free team mate, Mark Cairns (https://www.teamrunningfree.com/athletes/?athlete=Mark Cairns) who introduced me to the joys of triathlon and adventure racing. The rest, as they say, is history.
