It’s been at least 8 years since I last bought a pair of Mizuno running shoes but judging from the first 110 miles in the Wave Precision 12 I’ll be buying another in the next few months.
Overall this is an excellent general-purpose training shoe. It has enough protection for the medium-long and long runs but it really shines during the faster stuff such as tempo runs. Weighing in at 9.5 oz. (or 12.2 oz. for my men’s size 11.5—Yes I weigh my shoes) it is relatively light shoe. What sets this shoe apart is the transition from the mid foot to toe off. It is balanced and quick and thanks to the use of carbon rubber traction is excellent even in wet conditions.
The upper is Mizuno’s “AIRmesh” (I looked it up). It seamlessly covers the entire upper and it does an excellent job of climate control. Another couple of things that stood out to me was the extra protection on the toe and a lacing system that did a good job of securing the heel in the back of the shoe.
As far as fit, I found the shoe fit on the large size. The toe box was very roomy which is nice for long runs but I found I really needed tighten the laces when doing intervals or tempo runs.
Overall Mizuno has done an excellent job with this shoe. It’s a great all-rounder capable of protecting you through your daily training, responsive enough for tempo runs and light enough to consider for your next marathon.
