I just participated in Bolton’s Haunted Hill race on Sunday Oct. 28 and would like to report that this is a race worth doing. There is a 5k or 10k option that runs a loop course through Bolton and fittingly by a cemetery. The 10k is two loops so if you don’t like loops be forewarned. The course is on closed roads with lots of volunteers monitoring the corners. There is one tough hill approx. 3/4 of km long which was harder on the second loop! l.o.l. The Halloween theme was very present with many runners and volunteers dressing up. There was even prizes for best costume.
The race site is a school so it was nice to have indoor washrooms and a place to stay warm pre/post race. The minute we walked into the school there were friendly greeters directing people where to go for pick up or registration. The race kits consisted of a cool tech shirt (orange Halloween themed), Gatorade, Hammer gel, and a few treats. All finishers received a medal with again a cool Halloween themed ribbon. There were also age group prizes (plaques and merchandise). All runners also received a free pasta lunch and Tim Horton’s Coffee/hot chocolate. A good value for $50 and kids under 19 were only $20! There was a good representation of families and students which adds a fun element to the race but there was also some serious racing going on with the 5k being won in 18:49 and the 10k in 37:59. Approximately 350 runners took part.
Great job to the race directors and team of volunteers! Nice to have a well run race at such good value. Proceeds of $10,000 went to the Caledon food bank.
A race worth checking out.
