Something I love is winter running. I’m that person who can’t wait for the first snow fall, and the more time I can spend out there playing the happier I am. Come the fall I start hunting down winter gear so I’m ready to get out there when the snow finally arrives!
This fall I picked up The North Face APEX Climateblock Tight. During the first few good snow falls I did some long runs in this tight and I’m happy. The front and back of the tight have wind proof panels. I’ve had a couple of winter tights that only have the wind proof in the front. Having my back side protected from the icy winds is a good deal. I live on a bay and one of my favourite things to do is run the perimeter, so quite often there are strong winds at my back.
I found the design of the tight allows plenty of flex in the knees and hips. There’s a mix of different materials, wind proof on the front and back and a stretchy material down the sides, knees and waist. They’re not a close fitting tight, but they are a tight. For those -38C days I can put another layer under if I want thanks to the stretchy materials built in.
They’re also breathable and water resistant. They have some reflective markings on the zipper by the ankle and a small North Face logo on one leg. For winter running, I normally wear a smart wool sock of some sort that covers my ankle, this tight allows just a bit of extra room to zip over a wool sock without feeling any constriction and still fitting close enough as a tight should.
I’m loving this tight and it’s become one of favourites for long runs on a cold day.
