Montrail Molokai Review

Sandals

I was fortunate enough to win the Montrail gift certificate from the RunningFree draw and this is the gear review from the purchase.  With the money that was allotted to me from the gift certificate I purchased two pairs of the Montrail Molokai sandal.  I heated up my sandal in the oven and I put them on and now I have a pair of form fitting sandals.  They are comfortable from a foot resting point of view.  I have run in them after my children a number of time and they are up for the task.  The thong that goes in between my toes is not noticeable at all and the piece that rests over my the tarsals of my foot in amongst the most comfortable I have run across. More so than the Salomon Recovery sandal I was wearing previous to that.

A complaint that I have about these sandals is that they are very thick with padding.  They do not require my feet to do any work.  Most people would like this I suppose, but as a minimalist shoe wearer and runner, I don’t like the feeling of my feet not working.  My feet feel comfort when I wear them, but somehow the overall feeling of comfort to my body is off.  It is hard to describe.  I often kick them off and go bare foot if I am playing in the backyard.  It would seem the problem lies in my feet/feeling and isn’t necessarily a function of the sandal itself, as it was designed to make your foot do less work.

I have worn them after a race to allow my feet a little respite, but I can’t say that they are any better than my Salomon Recovery sandals for comfort and rest after a race.  They allow my feet to dry out, breathe, and rest.

The grip from the sole is solid and does provide a lot of hold, even in the rain.   Overall, I do enjoy them and I am glad that I have another pair in my closet waiting for me to use whenever I use up the ones that I am wearing.
