Race Report – Montrail Bajada
Scott McDonell
I was pleased this year to win a credit for a pair of Montrail Shoes. I have had good experience with Montrail products having owned a pair of Gore-Tex trail running shoes in the past which were ideal for winter running.
I chose a pair of Montrail Bajada shoes because of my preference for a trail shoe that is light weight, has good traction control, and good cushioning. The Montrail Bajada has all of these features. My runs are typically on roads, path systems and dirt / gravel trails. For example, the shoe performs well on the Caledon Trail system which is primarily dirt and loose gravel. The Montrail Bajada which has great midsole cushioning prevented me from feeling the effects of small sharp rocks. It is comforting to know when I’m tired and my focus is wavering, landing on an unexpected rock or twig will not be a painful experience due to the great cushioning.
The Montrail Bajada will be excellent for the upcoming Canadian winter. Loosing grip on snow dusted roads and trails or snow packed terrain is often an issue with some types of shoes. The Montrail Bajada will be excellent for the winter months and I expect to use it for winter races rather than traditional racing flats which have little grip. I prefer a racing flat for 5k to half marathon races an the Bajada will be a great replacement for upcoming winter races such as the Boxing Day 10 Miler and Chilly Half Marathon.
