Best part? riding on the Gardiner expressway and the DVP. Worst? transition is a bit bumpy having to run across a narrow bridge and get on your bike potentially in a crowd of people. Lots of people moaned and groaned about the water temperature in Lake Ontario last summer. Yes, it was cold. Wear a wetsuit and two caps! It could be worse..colder with waves. Lake Ontario is surprisingly clean and clear. To improve the swim they could add more buoys. One buoy in 1500 metres isn’t enough for us more experienced people with declining vision. The bike ride is fun. Watch for holes on the Gardiner however. Riding the DVP was surprising as I anticipated uphill to the top and then weeeeeee downhill to the bottom. In reality it is rolling in both directions and last year there was a headwind going south, so my splits were the same going north and south. The run is great. Flat and fast out and back. The organizers are super helpful (will answer your emails) and have a facebook site with pep talks leading up to race day and are very enthusiastic.
