Woodstock put on by John Salt and his awesome Recharge with milk team is the first tri of the season and is probably my favourite. After a winter of indoor training on the bike and swim, I don’t know about you but I am dying to get outside and race. John and his crew are fantastic. Super organized andsuper psyched that everyone enjoy their race and be safe. The race is getting more popular so now you should arrive at least an hour early to secure parking and have time to set up transition. The transition area is on grass and very close to the water. The lake is small so it’s warm enough in late spring. The swim starts between buoys in waist deep water. Sighting is easy, John’s races always have ample large buoys for sighting. Swim exits on sand and a short run on grass (100m?) brings you back to transition. Run out of transition is a slight up hill on grass to the road exiting the park. I’ve done this race a bunch of times and I can’t remember the bike which means it is rolling with no angst inducing hills. The run is multi terrain…a bit of grass, some rocky paths, then onto a concrete overpass to cross the lake, then a asphalt pathway that has some steep but very short hills. I prefer running on a smooth road but you can’t have everything. The best part is finishing and sitting in the sun (wear your sunscreen!) chatting with friends and waiting for the awesome draw prizes…don’t leave or you cannot win!
