The Brooks Caldera 2 is a neutral trail running shoe with a 4mm drop and a weight of 8.5oz.
Not only does this trail running shoe look great, but it feels amazing! It features soft cushioning with Brooks’ BioMoGo DNA midsole cushioning. Even though the midsole is stacked high, the shoe is still very responsive to trail conditions – I love a cushioned ride but I also like to feel the rocks and roots beneath my feet, and in the Brooks Caldera 2’s that’s exactly what I get.
The fit of the shoe is true to size, with a roomy toe box which I love – my toes have room to spread and react to my footfalls. The foot opening sits nice and high, just below the ankle, provide stability and security despite being a neutral shoe.
On very hot summer runs I found my feet overheating, however on wet and muddy runs my feet felt drier longer.
The outsole features high surface-area lugs which do provide great traction on uphills and downhills, however I found they were slippy in mud and picked up a lot of debris.
All in all a great trail shoe at a good price point; the Brooks Caldera 2 will be my new trail shoe of choice for wet and wintry conditions for sure!
