The Around the Bay road race was held in Hamilton Ontario March 31st 2019. It was a 30km road race around the Hamilton harbour. With the start in downtown Hamilton we headed out of the core toward Stoney Creek. It was a nice overcast morning with reasonable temp around -3C. With around 5000 runners it was pretty congested even with the 5 or 6 wave starts. I even saw one individual running the entire race backwards! The first 10km were relatively flat until we got to a bridge that took us over the QEW then we transitioned on to a long stretch along the side of Lake Ontario. Here was a bit more open and a bit of wind coming off the lake. This took us back to the Burlington Skyway bridge which we traversed under on an older bridge which led us to the final 10km through quiet neighbourhoods. The last few km’s were hilly with one huge hill with a few km’s to go. The finish line was awesome in the middle of the old Copp’s Colliseum with hundreds of spectators and runners cheering us in. Around the Bay was a great race and I’m looking forward to Running it again in the future.
