I was lucky enough to win an entry to the Island Lake Classic through the Running Free lottery. Held on September 2nd 2019 at beautiful Island Lake in Orangeville. The race was a 10 km loop around the island lake reservoir on mostly crushed gravel and wooden bridges. The morning was a bright sunny day with comfortable temperatures in the mid-teens, a far cry from the low 30’s it had been the past few years.
It started off a bit downhill along the main entrance of the park until we were running parallel with Hwy 10 the pack opened up a bit with less elbows to get hit by, I tried to keep a 5min/km pace and slowly made my way past some racers that went off fast at the start. By the 5km mark I was still keeping my pace, everything was going smooth until the 8km mark where you veer off the main frack Andy head into the woods up a large hill, the next two km’s are trail and mainly uphill until the very end where you descend to the finish line. My finish time was 50.19 at a pace of 5.01min/km goo enough for 27th overall and 4th in my age group. The race was very well organized and the course was scenic, highly recommended
