I was fortunate to have the chance to run the CMCC Backs in Motion 5k through the Team Running Free lottery. The race was held just behind the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College on the scenic East Don Parklands Trail on Sunday, 5 May, 2019. This made race day significantly less hectic compared to other races where start areas are different from bag drop off and pick up.
The course was spectacular and easy to navigate. With views of greenery, the humming of birds, the sound of flowing water, and lush foliage made for an immersive experience in nature. The course was well marked and had many volunteers and marshals on site which made the small elevation changes easier.
After the race, there was a plentiful amount of food at the post race area. An assortment of bagels, bananas, and a variety of yogurts was available for all participants. I was pleased to see the number of awards and prizes given to age category winners and the top finishers of every race. All age group winners were given $150 gift certificates and the second and third age category winners were given prizes from sponsors. There were also a variety of coupons and samples from sponsors included in the race kits. It was my first time running in this race and definitely not my last. I was able to finish second in the M15-19 age category and am looking to take part in this amazing race in the years to come.
In conclusion, I feel so lucky to have participated in the Backs In Motion 5K and be able to support such a great cause. Thanks again to Team RF!
