Get Active in Temiskaming is a nonprofit group that organizes a series of 6 themed run and walk events a year, fundraising for local organizations as well as promoting healthy, active living. 90% of all entry fees gets donated to the entrants’ beneficiary of choice. In 2023 the beneficiaries are the Temiskaming Nordic Team Ski Racers, Temiskaming Shores Skating Club, and Temiskaming Northern Loons Swim Club.
April 23, 2023 was the first event of the year, the Chocolate Run 5K and 10K in Haileybury.
The run started in front of City Hall, which was open so participants could stay warm inside and also use the washrooms before race time.
The 5K out and back route zigzagged through the streets of Haileybury, along the bike path at Farr Park, and onto Carter Blvd in North Cobalt, where there was a cup-less water station at the turnaround.
The best part? The second half was ALL DOWNHILL!!
This was an extremely well organized event, a great value at $10, and a fun way to kick off the 2023 racing season.
