High Cush Trail Cruisin Hoka Speedgoat 5

A little late to review as the new SG 6 is already out, but I thought I would give my thoughts as it was my first foray into the Hoka brand.

I used these in training and race day for my first 50k(55k) in 2023 – Creemore Vertical Challenge. I felt that they were a tad narrow for my feet that are sort of between standard and wide width. I should have gone up 1/2 a size. Cushioning was extremely comfortable and the shoes still felt fairly light and nimble over moderate technical terrain even though the shoe is fairly bulky. As my long runs grew longer I had some discomfort after running on my pinky toes/outside of feet. After completing my first 55k in these and roughly 3 months of training there was already some noticeable wear on the lugs, but the foam was still very cushiony. My pinky toes and the outsides of my feet took some time to recover after my race, but this issue would have most likely been elevated by going up 1/2 size. Decent shoe for me, but I have tried others since then and had more luck with the TNF Altamesa 500 and Salomon Ultraglide 2.
