Xact Nutrition Energy Fruit Bar – Black Currant
Xact Nutrition Protein Wafer – Vanilla
I purchased a box of both products with my lottery winnings. I’d previously sampled both products at demos/races, and this was a great opportunity to make them a regular part of my training nutrition.
I’ll start with the Xact Nutrition Energy Fruit Bar – Black Currant:
Despite being a fruit bar and not a gel, Xact has a found a way to make their bars surprisingly chewable while running or cycling. It’s a quick and tasty way to get in quick carbs and with this flavour variant -also caffeine. The flavour may dwindle a little bit once you’ve consumed 5-10 if you’re doing a long session, but they hold up well with regards to sports nutrition products. I’m definitely happy to grab Xact nutrition whenever I see it available on a race course.
Now to the Xact Nutrition Protein Wafer – Vanilla:
Normally, I’m really picky when it comes to protein bars, frankly I think most of them suck. These however, are a light wafer texture which is much easier to get down. Although they’re only around 15g of protein instead of the traditional 20-25 in other protein bars, I much prefer being able to enjoy the bar instead of choking it down.
One downside I will say is that as time went on, I did start to get a little tired of taste… I think that’s going to happen with a lot of protein products. I still find myself reaching for one after a very long session when I don’t have the ability to get a meal in right away, so these are still a great product.
In the end, I am very happy with both products. I’m not really a fan of using sports specific nutrition products year round, but when training gets heavy, these are a great way to help keep the body topped up and recovered.
