These poles are one of my “luxury items” that I didn’t know I needed until I got them.
When I decided I wanted trekking poles, I spoke to several ultra runner friends to see what they preferred. The Black Diamond Carbon Z poles were the unanimous choice.
The Carbon Z poles feature a three-section foldable design making them easy to store on a pack or belt, and quick and easy to deploy on the run or hike. With 100% carbon fibre shafts, they are super light and extremely strong; I am very clumsy and have tripped myself up on my poles several times, and no harm done to the poles.
They come equipped with low profile baskets for versatility, and also include winter snow baskets for snowy adventures. I have not yet used my poles for running, only for hiking, but they have kept me upright in slippery situations more times than I can count – I won’t hike without them.
