About Me: I started running with the encouragement of my dad, who would challenge us kids to run to the next hydro pole or tree. I competed in high school and 1 year of university. I kept active while teaching and raising my daughter, and then began road racing in my late 40s. I switched back to sprints when I learned about Ontario and Canadian Masters Athletics events, and am now continuing in my 70s. I am married to a supportive partner, Al, who carries my bag, plans the travel, cheers, cooks, and keeps me grounded.
Sports: Sprinting and hurdling, but also hiking, biking, strength training.
Athletic Goals: Longevity! I hope to keep sprinting as long as I can! I have role models ahead of me in their 70s, 80s, 90s ... I want to follow them. I will be competing at the World Masters Indoor Championships in March 2025.
My most memorable racing experience was: I am very proud of being inducted into WMA Gallery of Champions 2024, as an Ambassador. I love to share my passion for athletics with others, to encourage them to find their way to stay fit and healthy. I am also proud of being WMA Athlete of the Decade 2010-2019, which I see as tribute to longevity. I want to keep going!
Favourite Racing Gear: Brooks ELMN8 7 spikes, Saucony Kinvaras or FastTwitch for training. My favourite clothing is anything with Canada on it.
Favourite Race: I like the Athletics Ontario mini-meets where all ages and genders can compete. I also like the Canadian and World Masters Athletics events, meeting like-minded people from across Canada and around the world. It's cool to race with my own age too!
Favourite Race Food: I always start the day with a smoothie, to get in my protein, greens powder, fruit, and fiber. I make homemade energy bites with peanut butter and/or tahini for quick snacking before or after training.
