About Me: As long as I can remember I've always been active, through school participating in all the sports, running and gymnastics. In my adult years, I've found a new love in hockey, ball hockey and soccer and continued my love of running. Participating in many road races, typically 5km or 10km, I have completed about 5 1/2 marathons and 1 marathon. While the marathon is not my preferred distance, nor do I really want to ever do it again ;) I do continue to apply for the New York City marathon lottery in hopes of using it as a sightseeing vessel. Fingers crossed 9th time is a charm! I'm also an active coach for Special Olympics, coaching my son in Track & Field and Swimming.
Sports: Overall, I love running, no doubt about that. For organized sport, I really do love soccer and ball hockey, such quick and agile sports, they really do allow my endurance to shine.
Athletic Goals: With a milestone year approaching, I wanted to return to my roots and my love of track & field and participate in at least on track meet this year. Distances TBD as I work through my current fitness level.
My most catastrophic racing experience was: Working my way through the Disney Marathon, I was doing well until about 20 miles in when it was clear I was not doing well. At one point I remember thinking why can't I go any faster and I looked down and I was actually just standing still, not moving, holding onto a lamp post! It was such a strange experience, almost at the state of delusion where I thought I was moving but was totally still. I had to will my feet to move and get to the finish line. I'm pretty sure I was full on talking to myself the rest of the way, but I made it!
My most memorable racing experience was: Running the Sunshine Skyway 10km in Florida, what an incredible experience being at the top of the bridge, I just stopped and took it all in, time didn't matter in that moment.
Favourite Racing Gear: I've lately become a Hoka lover, switching from Saucony for as long as I can remember, I'm so happy with this new found gear. I also love any running short with a phone pocket! I can't go anywhere without my Garmin 245 watch and lastly, I've recently purchased a pair of Shockz headphones, wow!
Favourite Race: Mount Albert 5km, close to home, very familiar route
Favourite Race Food: Admittedly, I'm terrible at nutrition, I often workout in the morning on an empty stomach and eat quite light following that. I do aspire to learn more about healthy nutrition and the effects it has on training. Nuun is a must have for me also.
