About Me: I've been back in Toronto for a couple of years after 3.5 years living and racing in London, England. Well, the last 2 years in london was my return to the sport, and return to a healthy way of living. My main motivator of course was some tri competition. I've focused on cycling for the last 4 years as this was an area I enjoy the most now, and wanted to make it my main competency. I plan to get back into my running roots now, and try to pick up the slack on the swim.
Sports: Triathlon Running Road Cycling The odd MTB race
Athletic Goals: 2011: - half ironman - 4:50, Olympic Tri - 2:12,
My most catastrophic racing experience was: Kingston Triathlon (I think 1995 ) - Swim start was in the middle of lake Ontario, and a ferry took us out and left us to treading water for about 30 mins in the middle of Lake Ontario before the start. Battled 2 foot-high waves for the entire swim, and by the transition I was quite disoriented. I took a few mins before getting on the bike, and went fine but suddenly had a muscle cramp in my calf, and nearly crashed. Was unable to recover, and was barely able to walk, never mind run after finishing the bike. This was my only non-finish to date.
My most memorable racing experience was: 2008 London Triathlon (Olympic distance) - My first appearance in 2007 totally overwhelmed me. The sheer magnitude of this event is amazing. It's the largest Triathlon event in the world; only 13,000 competitors for the Olympic distance for the '08 year. yes, 13,000!
Favourite Racing Gear: My Specialized transition with Zipp wheels, but I also love my personally customized Pinnacle Aeos Team Carbon road bike. Only one of it's kind in Canada outfitted with SRAM carbon STI's, and full carbon throughout (15.3 pounds with pedals bottle cages adn computer!!). I have a perfernce for Saucony shoes (currently Grid trigon Guide)!! Regular use of 'The Stick' Marathon model is a a great little tool at aiding muscle recovery.
Favourite Race: The London triathlon
Favourite Race Food: I find nothing works better than a gel. Nuun electrolyte replacement tablets are good too, and salt tablets are a must for longer stuff!!
