About Me: In high school I was the ultimate nerd (highest overall gradepoint average in Grade 12!) who ran (and not fast) from any kind of sport. Over the last 10 years, I have found my inner althete! :) I love the challenges and sense of accomplishment competing in sports gives me. I am always looking to my next goal. I volunteer my time for a number of worthwhile charitable causes, both at work and in my community. I have boundless energy and enthusiasm and I am always looking for my next challenge.
Sports: Running - Various distances, including on road, off road and Ultramarathons Triathlons & Duathlons Hiking - In 2005, hiked the Grand Canyon with the Joints in Motion society. Rock-Climbing. Ski-ing Mountain Biking & Off-Road triathlon/duathlon - newbie.
Athletic Goals: For 2011, I plan to compete and record PB's in a number of running events, including the International Bermuda Triangle Races. I've just started mountain biking, so hoping to compete in my first mountain bike race and/ or off-road duathlon this year also. For 2011, I also plan to compete in a 50 mile Ultramarathon and/or a 70.3 Ironman triathlon. (just looking for the right venues!)
My most catastrophic racing experience was: TBD! I have won 'best blood' award for a 50k trail race and have the scars still to prove it. And besides, I have never met a trail race I could not fall on my face during! :)
My most memorable racing experience was: My very first tri-a-tri I participated in coming down the finishing shoot I killed myself trying to beat the person ahead of me. I finished 49th. The 50th person who finished the race was 'Althete/Racer of the Day' and received a photo and $300 Zoot gift certificate. The elderly gentleman I passed, turned to me and said, "That's the best race I ever lost!". The announcer said something like, 'That's the first time I have ever seen anyone race that hard to be 49th, normally I stop announcing numbers as we get close since people actually slow down to be in the right position.' So, my competitive spirit got the better of me, but I can laugh about it now and I was hooked!
Favourite Racing Gear: Brooks Glycerin 6's - alas Brooks has now upgraded to Glycerin 8
Favourite Race: Ultimate XC in Mont Tremblant
Favourite Race Food: Dark chocolate covered coffee beans or ginger...yum!
