About Me: I was never active at all growing up. I was more into video games and eating at buffets. I started running back in 1999, I probably ran 50 feet and could barely breathe. I kept at it, aiming for the next lamp post, and somehow things got easier. Flash forward to 2005 and that's when I did my first 10k (yes, I like taking things slow) and was hooked. My athletic life turned around at that point. I continue to eat at buffets and play video games, but not as often. I enjoy seeing people reach their athletic goals and making a difference in their lives.
Sports:
Running
Triathlons
Athletic Goals: Not to crash and burn in an Ironman distance event. Good lord, they're so painful.
My most catastrophic racing experience was: Getting a flat in Ironman Canada 2009 at the 27k mark. The rest of the race was a downward spiral. But at least I made it on TSN and learned a lot from it. You always take something from each race you do.
My most memorable racing experience was: There's 2 of them, but it's co-related:
Busting my ass in Ottawa 2007 marathon and coming in at 3:11:02.3. Yes, I was 2.3 seconds off qualifying for Boston, which was something I had been waiting to do ever since I started running marathons. I was quite peeved at the time, but I can laugh at that now.
My actual BQ was a lot better. I was at the 32k mark of the run and then realized 'OMG, I'm going to BQ properly this time!' My whole mental attitude changed and that kept me going till the end. I barely qualified with a 3:10:49 or so. But I did somehow did it. I was on a runner's high for 2 weeks after that moment!
Favourite Racing Gear:
Zoot Ultra Kane shoes
Some random funny jersey for running. Also Team RF Gear!
Favourite Race: NYC & Boston for marathons. Ironman Mont Tremblant is amazing.
Favourite Race Food: Arizona Ice Tea & Taco Bell for recovery.
