About Me: I started off running 10k's and cross country in 1994 and then moved to marathons. In 2001 I started running Ultra Marathons and that year ran 13 Ultra Marathons and won the Ontario Ultra Series. In 2002 I was on the Canadian ACU 100K Team, and competed in Torhout, Belgium at the World Cup. As of today I have run over 100 Ultramarathon Races and continue to enjoy them, logging over 2,000 miles a year on average.
Sports: Ultramarathon Running, track, road, trail, stage races. Curling during the fall and winter at Thornhill Golf and Country Club.
Athletic Goals: I am organizing a group to travel to the 6 Day, Desert Rats Stage Race in Colorado and Utah this summer. This race is along the 148 Mile Kokopelli Trail in the High Desert. Temperatures can exceed 100F and the elevation ranges between 4,000 and 8,000 feet. Navigational skills and survival emergency equipment are needed. I'll be running several races leading up to this including; Pick your Poison 50k, Waterloo Marathon the next day, Seaton Trail 56k, and Sulphur Springs 50 Mile. Also, Run for the Toad, 50k.
My most catastrophic racing experience was: Running the JFK 50 Mile race and tearing my meniscus at mile 7. Through some pain I was able to finish the race in 8:37, a Personal Best. I was laid up with no running for 6 weeks after.
My most memorable racing experience was: Running the 46 mile double crossing of the Grand Canyon was spectacular. 10 friends, amazing views, Many highs and low points. My wife also did an 18 mile Rim to River to Rim hike. Linking up with her at the end and sharing in the adventure was great.
Favourite Racing Gear: On the trail, Montrail Masochist, CWX shorts, shirts, and hat.
Favourite Race: Haliburton Forest 100 Mile Trail Race
Favourite Race Food: Eload for sure, never leave home without it! Electrolytes pills, PC Ensure drink, bananas.
