About Me: I am 31 years old and have been running for a little over two years. I originally started running after training in Martial Arts for many years. I had left my Dojo and needed someplace to focus my energy. At first my plan was simply to finish a full marathon, but by the time I did that I was hooked! In September of 2009 I completed the Haliburton Forest 100 Mile Trail Run. Crewing for me at the event were my girlfriend and a few friends. My girlfriend didn't know it, but my friends and I had a secret plan, and after crossing the finish line I dropped to my knee and proposed. She said yes!
Sports: Does Guitar Hero count? No? Just running then. I do some biking, but that is mostly as a means of cross training and transportation.
Athletic Goals: Improve on my marathon PB of 3 hours 50 minutes, and my 10K time of 45 minutes.
My most catastrophic racing experience was: Nothing too bad, but during the Toronto Marathon in 2008 I dropped a gel packet and without thinking about it I stopped and turned around to pick it up. In the process I shoulder checked the unfortunate runner behind me. Luckily he just swore at me and kept running.
My most memorable racing experience was: Running, or attempting to run, through the forest at night during the Haliburton Forest 100 Mile Trail Run. I had been running since 6 in the morning and my headlamp was causing strange shifting shadows. By that point in the race the remaining runners were so spread out across the course that it was very rare to see any one.
Favourite Racing Gear: I haven't really developed any brand loyalties, but I do find that Brooks stability shoes work well for me. I also love every one of my marathon shirts, not just because of what they represent to me, but because they save me the trouble of bragging about having finished a marathon by doing it for me!
Favourite Race: The Toronto Marathon
Favourite Race Food: Water, sweet, sweet water. Also anything that I can keep down on race day instantly becomes my new best friend!
