Athletic Goals: To run the perfect Marathon To improve my 1/2 IM time
My most catastrophic racing experience was: The 2002 New York City Marathon.
My most memorable racing experience was: It has to be the 2000 Boston Marathon. The long, cold and drizzly wait on race morning put a bit of a damper on the affair but that was quickly forgotten once we lined up for the start. Right at the end of the National Anthem, the fly-by of a couple of F-15s, barely clearing the treetops, surely sent a chill down my back. And then there is Wellesley College, just about at the halfway point and us running straight into the wind, the screaming from the all female student-body could be heard a full mile before we got there. What a lift of the spirits. The closer we got to the finish line, the deeper the rows of spectators and the louder the cheers, but nothing prepared me for that famous last kilometer down Boylston Street. Even with no energy left and my legs cramping badly, the roar of the crowd just about carried me all the way to the finish line. To finish a race, not just any race but the Boston Marathon, with this kind of crowd support, that must be the absolute runners high and I still get the shivers just thinking about it. Finishing my first IM in Lake Placid and being told by Roger Hospedales that I'm first in my age group by a large margin.
Favourite Racing Gear: Hands down the Team Running Free apparel.
