About Me: I'm in my first year of university and I love exercising in general. I really like to lift heavy throughout the winter, and then run the rest of the year. I am fairly new to running and I am hoping to work on my speed in 2014. I also like to try new things- adventure racing, skydiving- you name it! Running means a lot to me and I'm really excited to share that passion with the rest of Team Running Free
Sports: Aside from running I like weight lifting a lot, I also play hockey and golf, and enjoy badminton and ultimate frisbee at a leisurely level.
Athletic Goals: Right now my biggest goal is preparing for my first Tough Mudder. I plan to be reaching half-marathon distance again by about June, and then Tough Mudder is in August. I'm hoping get a few more 10k's under my belt this season as well.
My most catastrophic racing experience was: When I was racing CWOSSA (high school cross country semi-finals basically), there was a random 25 degree day at the very end of October and that was, of course, race day. We had all been training in this rather cold weather for most of the season and it was very difficult for my body to adjust. It's the closest I have ever come to not finishing a race, and I did have to walk for a couple of minutes. I finished nonetheless and learned to always hope for the best, but prepare for the worst weather on race day!
My most memorable racing experience was: I very specifically remember one night when I was training for my first half marathon. I was doing my long run on a Sunday night and it was snowing a little bit and was completely dark and quiet out with no one really out and milling around town. Very serene. I had forgotten where exactly the route that I had planned out on MapMyRun.com was supposed to take me for 17km. I was feeling really good that night and decided to just go wherever. I ended up running 18.5km that night, and to think that I would have stopped after 17 just because that's what the schedule said. It was a nice reminder that we can just about always do more, and that your head gives out before your legs 9 times out of 10.
Favourite Racing Gear: - Moving Comfort sports bras - Nathan hydration belt - SMARTWOOL socks for sure!! - Watuko bamboo wraps
Favourite Race: MudHero
Favourite Race Food: Before every run I eat a "pancake" made from two eggs and one mashed banana with either some honey or maple syrup on top. During my runs I have come to really like Sport Beans and eLoad electrolyte drinks. After training I usually either have a nice and warm hearty meal, or a protein smoothie!
